History

Chung's early history is largely unknown, except for the fact that he was born in 761 UC (452 IC / 3561 CE), and had a family of his own. He was an Operations officer on Heinessen and was considered very talented, which convinced Alexander Bewcock to take him on as Chief of Staff briefly before the Battle of Rantemario. During this time, he convinced Bewcock to give Yang Wen-li the possibility to abandon Iserlohn Fortress to the Imperials, as an imperial invasion via Fezzan made the fortress negligible on the strategic scale. Furthermore, he reasoned that they had a greater chance of fighting off the invasion if the 1st, 14th and 15th fleets linked up with the Iserlohn Garrison Fleet, before the Imperials from Fezzan and those from Iserlohn could gather.

During the battle at Rantemario, Chung showed himself a competent Chief of Staff, but even he and Bewcock's combined talents, along with the tactical advantages of Rantemario itself, could only delay defeat. As their defences crumbled, Chung prevented Bewcock from killing himself. He reasoned that people such as Bewcock, Chung and Dawson would have to serve as sacrifices if the Imperials wished for some, in order to let people who could later form a resistance against the Empire, such as Yang, would be spared.

After the Treaty of Ba‘alat was signed, Bewcock retired, leaving Chung as an interim Space Fleet Commander. Several months later, he was asked by Chairman Rebelo to take official command of the Fleet, muster what was left of it, and take out a newly-escaped Yang before the younger admiral could form a powerful, and possibly renegade, fleet. Although ready to obey as a soldier, Chung countered that Yang's abilities and his popularity would only cause the Fleet to switch sides to Yang.

As the Empire invaded the Alliance for the final time, Chung gladly placed himself back as Chief of Staff for the returned Bewcock. Well aware that outright open resistance to the Empire was by now futile, he nonetheless joined Bewcock's last stand. Not, however, before using his authority to transfer over 5,000 warships to Yang's growing forces. Chung then joined Bewcock and fought bravely at the Battle of Marr-Adetta. He died on the bridge of the Rio Grande after giving a last, dignified toast to democracy. (LOGH: 'The Battle of Marr-Adetta Starzone (Part Two)')
