Talk:Light carrier

For the life of me, I can't remember when we see this ship - but I'm pretty sure "light carrier" is wrong. Isn't this a ship that carries the smaller assault ships for ground troops?

Anyway, if anyone can remember when we see this thing, please let me know. Vympel 02:06, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

I don't remember ever seeing anything like this ship. It's kind of hard to tell from the .gif, but it looks like it might have a cylindrical hull? If it ever appeared in the OVAs, it must have been in the background--and very small. It seems quite distinctive. Canary 16:35, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, it has a cylindrical hull. The only time I've seen it is on the alba-create website, part of a 'small craft' model pack you can buy (can get it along with destroyers). I'll keep an eye out.Vympel 00:24, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Here it is on HLJ (discontinued):- http://www.hlj.com/product/ALBE-28 Vympel 01:01, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
The classification you are looking for is 'Amphibious Assault Vessel Carrier'. Well, 'vessel' may not be the right word, but if you can think of a better one. It does carry a number of (16) assault boats for ground troops. I think it was only briefly shown when both sides were competing in entering ships... Almael 22:44, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
That's the transliteration, as I understand it - the ship is coming out in the GX-01 Fleet File (been released before too). "Amphibious" makes no sense though. What brief showing are you referring to? Vympel 02:08, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
Naming and classification has not always to do with making sense, especially the navies use way outdated namings i.e. ranks. Tradition is very strong within navies unlike the other military arms. In the past it may have been given for the ability to transition from the 'sea' to 'land'. The exact meaning of it may not be true anymore but the spirit of it still applies. Also there is no difference if a ship can transition from the 'sea of stars' to the islands within it. Hence, amphibious is still correct. If you look into other areas i.e. chemistry or biology naming is far from making sense or logic. lol I was sure I had a screenshot somewhere but couldn't find it. Anyway, if my memory serves it's an episode where Yang or maybe Julian used the ground troops to disrupt enemy ship battle by entering them. Imperial troops answer by doing the same until both sides retreat, which was the FPA side's aim. Almael 10:15, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
Btw. if you complain about naming you should start with 'ship' first. A spacecraft is certainly no ship. LOL Almael 10:42, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
Doesn't ring a bell. I'm pretty familiar with the series, the only thing that sort of sounds like is Eighth Iserlohn (episode 33, specifically), but not really. Just checked and the ship's not there (just the assault boats). As for "amphibious" - its a very *particular* word that just doesn't sit as easily as the common practice of referring to a spacecraft as a ship. Oh well, will cross that bridge when we come to it Vympel 10:57, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
I think in a later episode after the fall of the FPA. shrugs The only alternative to amphibious would be 'landing' (ship) or just leave that part out which would make its classification ambigious. Almael 14:47, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
