Willem Holland (Japanese: ウィレム・ホーランド) was an Alliance vice admiral who commanded the 11th Fleet by 794 UC (485 IC / 3594 CE), taking part in the Third Battle of Tiamat. Holland became a vice admiral at the age of 32, which prompted some to compare him to the Alliance war hero Bruce Ashbey. At Tiamat, he charged into the main Imperial formation and inflicted significant casualties, but concentrated artillery fire from the nearby Lohengramm Fleet destroyed his flagship Epimetheus and killed him.

History

Around late 794 UC (485 IC / 3594 CE), Rear Admiral Holland proposed a plan to Alliance Fleet HQ to capture Iserlohn Fortress, by drawing out the Imperial Fleet and remaining just outside of the Thor Hammer's firing range, then using fast missile cruisers to go along the periphery of the Iserlohn Corridor and break through the walls of the fortress from an odd angle. His plan was also similar to one proposed by general staff officer, Commander Andrew Falk, and thus the Alliance Space Fleet Commander-in-Chief Lassalle Lobos (who valued Falk's advice) decided to accept it. The plan became known as "Operation Waltz on D-Line". (HBSHBL: 'Truth Is the Daughter of Time')

The Sixth Battle of Iserlohn occurred from 1 to 10 December 794 UC (485 IC / 3594 CE), and ultimately Holland's plan failed, with his force being decimated by Reinhard von Müsel's squadron. However, during the battle he commanded the missile ship detachment and at one point inflicted significant casualties against the main Imperial fleet. Presumably for this he was promoted to vice admiral and 11th Fleet commander after the battle, despite the Alliance's defeat and his plan being a failure. He would not wait long before seeing action once again, this time because the Imperial high command decided on a new offensive ostensibly in retaliation for the Alliance attack on Iserlohn and to commemorate the thirtieth anniversary of the Kaiser's coronation. (HBSHBL: 'The Sixth Battle of Iserlohn', 'A Hundred Billion Stars, One Ambition')

By February 795 UC (486 IC / 3595 CE) he had received his promotion and took part in repulsing the new Imperial offensive. Holland was praised by the Alliance media and was compared to Bruce Ashbey due to his young age. During the Third Battle of Tiamat, he charged recklessly into the main Imperial fleet and caused chaos, defying the orders of Vice Admiral Alexandre Bewcock to withdraw. But concentrated artillery fire ended up destroying both his megalomaniacal ambitions to 'invade the Empire' as well as his 11th Fleet. Holland was killed aboard his flagship, falling victim to a surprise attack from Reinhard von Müsel for the second and last time. (TBT: 'Part One', 'Part Two')
