Synopsis

Wolfgang Mittermeyer tries to convince Reinhard von Lohengramm to exercise restraint towards Oskar von Reuenthal but is rebuffed. Instead, Reinhard orders Mittermeyer to prepare for a punitive expedition against Reuenthal. When Reinhard reaches Fezzan, a letter from Reuenthal arrives, denouncing Heydrich Lang of taking advantage of Reinhard's frequent bouts of illness to meddle in state affairs. The letter's presumption of Reinhard being controlled by Lang and Paul von Oberstein infuriates Reinhard. Mittermeyer comes to the understanding that if he had refused the Kaiser's order, Reinhard himself would have led the Imperial Fleet against Reuenthal. Thus, it would have increased unrest amongst all of Reinhard's vassals. Mittermeyer attempts to kill Lang, but is stopped by Ulrich Kesler. A report initiated by Cornelius Lutz and investigated by Kesler implicates Lang of unjustly imprisoning and killing Nicholas Boltik. Hildegard von Mariendorf realises she is pregnant. On 14 November 800 UC (2 NIC / 491 IC / 3600 CE), a fleet of 42,770 ships commanded by Mittermeyer, August Samuel Wahlen, and Fritz Joseph Bittenfeld launch towards Neue Land.
