The Tiamat Starzone (Japanese: ティアマト星域) is a starzone, located in the Iserlohn Corridor. Because of its strategic importance, the Tiamat Starzone saw many of the fiercest battles in the Alliance–Imperial War.

Notable battles

Second Battle of Tiamat

The Second Battle of Tiamat in 745 UC (436 IC / 3545 CE) was the single largest battle of the war up to that time, with a total of 104,000 ships and 10,136,000 soldiers participating. The battle involved a large Imperial expedition and the Alliance fleets that intercepted it, resulting in a horrendous defeat for the Galactic Empire, costing them an enormous number of ships and soldiers, as well as the lives of more than 60 admirals. (SL: 'The Man Loved by the Goddess of Time: Chronicle of the Second Battle of Tiamat, Part I', 'The Death of a Hero: Chronicle of the Second Battle of Tiamat, Part II')

Third Battle of Tiamat

This battle in 794 UC (485 IC / 3594 CE) between an Imperial expedition striking into Alliance territory from Iserlohn and the Alliance fleets amassed to intercept it ended in a substantial Imperial victory. While Vice Admiral Holland of the 11th Fleet's unorthodox, chaotic tactics threw the Imperial formation into temporary disarray, his refusal to stop and consolidate his forces eventually left him open to a concentrated attack by the Imperial reserves under Vice Admiral Reinhard von Müsel. Though the Imperial forces withdrew in the face of additional Alliance reinforcements, the Alliance 11th Fleet lost its commanding officer and was left severely damaged. Reinhard's achievements in this battle would lead to him being granted command of the Brünhild. (TBT: 'Part One', 'Part Two')

Fourth Battle of Tiamat

In 795 UC (486 IC / 3595 CE), the Free Planets Alliance congregated a number of fleets in the Tiamat Starzone in preparation for what would be the seventh attempt at capturing Iserlohn Fortress. The offensive against Iserlohn never came into fruition however as the Alliance fleets encountered strong resistance from the Imperial fleets dispatched to counter the Alliance offensive. In the ensuing deadlock, Admiral Reinhard von Lohengramm played a vital role in breaking it by committing his fleet (which had detached from the main fleet during the early stages of the battle) into the front lines at an opportune moment. His action would have undoubtedly triggered a systemic collapse of the Alliance line if not for a daring charge by Commodore Yang Wen-li on board the battleship Ulysses against Reinhard's flagship Brünhild, effectively holding it hostage and thus allowed the Alliance fleet to retreat in good order.

After the Fourth Battle of Tiamat, Reinhard was granted a special commendation, and firmly established a reputation for himself as a brilliant tactician. Furthermore, he went to lengths to learn the name of the man who had managed to open up a path to safety for the retreating Alliance forces; at the same time, Yang sought out the name of the commander of the white ship. The rivalry between Yang Wen-li and Reinhard von Lohengramm that began with this battle would shape and define the history of the galaxy in the years to come. (My Conquest Is the Sea of Stars)
