A destroyer is a type of light vessel used in both the Free Planets Star Fleet and the Imperial Fleet that is used for escorting larger warships, such as battleships.

Free Planets Alliance
Alliance destroyers primarily served in a supporting role to cruisers and battleships. Its smaller size also made an ideal design for it to operate in denser areas such as asteroid fields. Galactic Empire
Small and fast, destroyers are the smallest independent warships observed in Imperial fleets. (LOGH: 'Seeking a Free Universe')
Destroyers were heavily armed, with 52 forward-facing energy cannons (split into four cells of 13 cannons each) and multiple missile launchers. Further, they embarked a pair of Valkyrie fighters. (LOGH: 'Admiral Yang's Ark Fleet'. LOGH: 'The Battle of Vermilion (Part One)')
Due to the large quantity of weapons and over-sized engines being placed on so small a warship, destroyers had very little space left for the crew: living quarters were quite cramped, contrary to the typically expansive interiors of Imperial warships. Naturally, because destroyers prioritized speed and mobility, armor, too, was kept to a minimum.
