Name spelling
Hi there! Does anybody have any clue about the origin of the "Schann-tau / Schan'n-tau" name? The Japanese katakana spelling シャンタウ led me to the Chinese town Shantou (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shantou)... However, the English spelling is so weird that it cannot be anything but on purpose. The English translator of the novels may have thought the same thing so he kept the "Schan'n-tau" spelling. I finally found an occurrence of this "Schan'n-tau"... in one of Fritz Reuter's work (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fritz_Reuter), which is written in Low German, so I don't have any clue on whatever "Schan'n-tau" means! - [Self-edit] Well, apparently the Chinese city name "Shantou" does not have the same pronounciation as シャンタウ. However, there is a German city called "Bad Schandau" (though its Japanese spelling is slightly different). So... why not keep "Schan'n-tau", silly Saga?! ^^; Saga, 22 December 2024
