- This template is used primarily for the insertion of non-italicised possessive apostrophes which follow an italicised a word. The most common use case is related to the names of vessels, which are italicised according to the traditional style.
- If this template is not used, two problems can arise: (1) The addition of the extra apostrophe may break italicisation and/or bolding, due to the apostrophe's use in wiki mark-up for formatting; and (2) the ship name can 'run into' the apostrophe due to the fact that the name is italicised but the apostrophe is not.
- This template avoids both problems. The second problem is solved by the addition of a small (1px) margin to the left of the apostrophe.
- The {{`}} template is identical to this one, except that it does not include the added left margin. This makes it appropriate for the opposite use case — writing italic apostrophes after a non-italicised word.
