Description

Shortcut template for creating links to military ranks.

Syntax

{{rank|<FPA / Imperial>|<rank name>|[<lc / sc>]}}

Sample output

{{rank|fpa|fleet admiral}} produces: Fleet Admiral

{{rank|imperial|fleet admiral|lc}} produces: fleet admiral

{{rank|imperial|fleet admiral|sc}} produces: Fleet admiral

Notes

This template is used for linking to ranks of the FPA/Imperial militaries. The template defaults to title case ('Fleet Admiral') because its primary purpose is to be used in front of characters' names (for instance, 'Fleet Admiral Yang Wen-li'). However, rendering in lower-case ('fleet admiral') or sentence case ('Fleet admiral') is possible via the lc and sc options, respectively.

The template is relatively 'smart' and recognises several different variations on nation and rank names, which should hopefully catch most use cases. When in doubt, however, the fullest rendering of the name should always work.

Currently it is not required to use this when linking to ranks — but it may be at some point in the future.

Since the code for this template is somewhat complex, a formatted version has been made available at Rank/formatted. Please follow the instructions there, and make sure the two versions stay in synch.
