The Earth Cult (Japanese: 地球教団), also referred to as Terraists, were an extra-national organisation, operating much like a secret society, intent on manipulating the major interstellar governments to suit their own purposes, which chiefly revolved around their ideology of Terraism.

Politics

The Earth Cult were a secret society which emphasised advocated the re-establishment of Earth as the centre of human civilisation. Whilst their capital and holiest temple was on Earth beneath the rubble of Mount Everest, they had many churches around the galaxy — from the Free Planets Alliance's capital, Heinnesen, to the former capital of the Galactic Empire, Odin. They additionally had a strong presence in the new Imperial capital of Fezzan, having held great influence over the former Fezzani government before its overthrow and re-annexation by the Empire.

Methodology

The Earth Cult were a powerful organisation with followers all across the galaxy. On the surface, they were mostly benign, chiefly concerned with missionary activities. Secretly, however, the Cult routinely used acts of terrorism to accomplish their goals: The Terraists were beyond many assassination attempts, successful and unsuccessful, on both powerful heads of states and high-ranking military officers, including Yang Wen-li, Reinhard von Lohengramm, and August Samuel Wahlen.

The Cult also routinely used brain-washing drugs to maintain control over their 'followers', enabling them to convert even mild believers into suicidally devoted fanatics.

Background Information

Terraism is the only known (organised) religion in the LoGH universe. This may or may not indicate an absence of other organised religions, but it is clear that belief in god or gods does persist among people who are not Terraists.^{[clean-up needed]}
