Magdalena von Westpfale (Japanese: マグダレーナ・フォン・ヴェストパーレ) was a member of the high nobles who frequented Neue Sanssouci during the reign of Friedrich IV. She was a close friend of the Countess Annerose von Grünewald.
A baroness by birth, Westpfale was renowned for her beauty and intellect. Her vivacious personality made her popular within the nobles' social circle, which together with her status, granted her a certain immunity from any social repercussions caused by her liberal attitudes. When Annerose von Grünewald first entered Neue Sanssouci, Westpfale famously befriended her when nobody else in the Imperial Court were willing to do so, and she easily deflected any criticisms laid against her with her sharp wit. Thereafter, Westpfale would keep company with Annerose, often together with Viscountess Dorothea von Schaffhausen, and it was during those gatherings where she became acquainted with Reinhard von Lohengramm (then Müsel) and Siegfried Kircheis.
Besides her hectic social life, Westpfale was also a patron of the arts and was known to have sponsored at least one school. Hildegard von Mariendorf's mother used to work in that school as a classical music teacher before her early passing, and her daughter became acquainted with the baroness as a result. By a twist of fate, Westpfale never managed to introduce Reinhard and Hildegarde together. (HBSHBL: 'The Night of the Party')
In 796 UC (487 IC / 3596 CE), Westpfale was caught up in an assassination attempt on Kaiser Friedrich IV at the estate of Duke Otho von Braunschweig during his daughter Elisabeth's birthday party, when exiled nobleman Marquis Wilhelm von Klopstock bombed the estate. Fortunately, she was unharmed in the attack. Her activities thereafter is unknown, although given her character it is likely that she would have opposed the Lippstadt League during the Imperial Civil War. (LOGH: 'The Klopstock Incident')
Baroness Westpfale is actually a Gaiden-exclusive character and never appeared in the main novel series, which explains the paucity of information about her in the main OVA series.
