Artificial limbs
Prosthetic limbs (arms, legs, feet, hands, etc.) were very advanced in the Empire (and possibly in the Alliance as well). Injured soldiers could quickly be fitted with customized prosthetic limbs, making war-time injuries a thing of the past.
Artificial eyes
Some time after the Inferior Genes Exclusion Act was repealed by the Goldenbaum Dynasty, the Galactic Empire began earnest development of prosthetic limbs and organs. Among the most most impressive results of that research were cybernetic eyes, that could be implanted directly into the ocular cavity. A person outfitted with artificial eyes could expect to see nearly as well as a he or she could with biological eyes.
Artificial eyes require recharging, and can be easily removed for that purpose. When low on power, they tend to emit blinking light, which can be percieved as unnatural, or creepy to those nearby the user. Reinhard von Lohengramm's Chief of Military Affairs, Paul von Oberstein, was notorious for his cold demenour and percieved inhuman attitude: negative sentiments that can be attributed to, at least in part, his cybernetic eyes.

Background information
- Although Oberstein's artificial eyes are clearly electronic in nature, certain lines of dialog indicate (or seem to indicate) that prosthetic limbs utilize, at least partially, organic technology.
- Paul von Oberstein and August Samuel Wahlen are the only two characters known to have medical prosthetics: Oberstein has two artificial eyes; Wahlen has an artificial arm.
