Patrick Attenborough (Japanese: パトリック・アッテンボロー) was a journalist in the former Free Planets Alliance, and the father of Dusty Attenborough.
As a teenager, Dusty initially wanted to follow in his father's footsteps and become a journalist. Patrick, however, discouraged his son's dreams, pushing him to a military career instead. Eventually, he revealed to his son that, as a condition for allowing him marry Mrs Attenborough, his father-in-law forced him to promise that he would raise his son to be a soldier.
All of Patrick Attenborough's children, however, were girls, and his father-in-law died in battle against the Galactic Empire a few months before Dusty was born. Believing her newborn son to be the reincarnation of her father, Mrs Attenborough named her her son Dusty after her father.
Dusty adamantly refused his father's request, only acquiescing when his father fell to his knees, crying. Compromising, they decided that Dusty would enrol into both the university of his choice and the Free Planets Alliance Officer Academy. Ultimately, Dusty was accepted into the Academy, but not the university.
Upon his son's entrance into the Academy, Patrick gave him a "lucky charm" that his father-in-law had given him on his wedding day: a rusted key. He claimed that once, while in Dusty's grandfather's pocket, it had saved him from a bullet (despite the key itself having no marks to corroborate). (SL: 'The End of One Journey')
