Background information
The name Rocinante is a reference to Don Quixote's horse, from the novel Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes. The name is a play on words; rocín refers to an old or poor-quality horse and ante means before or previously — thus, it suggests a horse which was previously useless but has been elevated beyond that status.
