Synopsis
Wolfgang Mittermeyer and Oskar von Reuenthal, two renowned admirals under the command of Reinhard von Lohengramm collectively dubbed as the "Twin Pillars", get together and reminisce about their respective pasts, culminating in the event that would lead to the defining moment of their careers: the Klopstock Incident. In March 795 UC (486 IC / 3595 CE), after thirty years of life in exile from Imperial high society, Marquis Wilhelm von Klopstock plotted an assassination of Kaiser Friedrich IV that was to occur during a party organised by Duke Otho von Braunschweig. However, the Kaiser never attended the party and the bomb left behind by the Marquis also failed to kill the Duke, his other target. Instead, Duke Braunschweig became enraged and volunteered to lead a punitive expedition against Marquis Klopstock. Mittermeyer and Reuenthal were tasked by the Imperial Navy to assist the Duke as technical advisors. During the expedition, Imperial soldiers, especially those of noble lineage, ran amok in the Klopstock domain. After Mittermeyer summarily executed one of his noble subordinates for killing and looting a defenceless woman, he was apprehended to be court-martialled. Upon learning about his friend's plight, Reuenthal ran out in a stormy night to seek for help...
