I've been a fan of Legend of the Galactic Heroes for a long time. I was a fan before I even saw or read any of it. You see, I was introduced to it chatting with Takayuki Karahashi on the Animag BBS (a.k.a. Valley of the Wind BBS) and already being a science fiction & space opera fan, I was sold.

While I do like (and still like) some anime, my focus has always been science fiction. The medium changes all the time, novels, anime, movies, books, television series, comic books and so on, but I've always been interested in science fiction. Granted, not all science fiction (or space opera) is good. Sometimes, it's campy. Sometimes, it's deadly serious.

I finally got to see some Legend of the Galactic Heroes via a friend who had rented a volume from a local (to him) Japanese video store in California. He made a copy for me and sent it up. If I recall correctly, it was episodes 20-25 or so. I had no real context of the story (other than what Taka had chatted to me about several years prior) and my understanding of Japanese has never been that fantastic but I loved it anyway.

Eventually I bought all of it on laserdisc. I found fan-translated scripts (mostly by Sue Shambaugh, and at the time, fansubs were not very common).

I started doing a lot of research to try to organize a complex story that I wanted to know more and more of and those notes eventually became the basis for the Legend of the Galactic Heroes Info Center web-site (which sadly for various reasons, I haven't really touched for 12 years).

Welcome. Ironically in a roundabout sort of way, it was your site that was my first real concentrated exposure to LOGH after Ming's website, and after the first passing mention in the rulebook of the game Full Thrust. After that initial introduction, I was able to do a clean sweep of the entire LOGH series and marathoned it in the late 1990's. The only thing left as a long term side project now is tackling the various side stories that were not animated, as there are the occasional tidbits of background information in those. Ohh. I didn't know you by name, but i definitely know the Info Center. You must be sort of an indirect celebrity within the English LOGH community, i guess. Nice to have you!  ♥ kine @ 19:55, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
