Sadly, I missed out on the leak of the first episode. Apparently crunchyroll has the streaming rights. No idea if that includes englis subs. Novel news
Just edited the front page a bit, but thought I should "source" the info. I contacted the publisher directly and was told that they expected to be able to release the first LoGH novel this autumn. Huzzah!Canary 18:38, 19 July 2015 (UTC)
- Awesome. Vympel 11:31, 24 July 2015 (UTC)
- And Amazon has the first book listed! Yay!Canary 21:07, 3 October 2015 (UTC)
- Some more news: the books will be paperbacks measuring 5.25" by 8"; they will also be available digitally in Amazon Kindle format, the pre-order for which should go up sometime in February.Canary 11:40, 8 October 2015 (UTC)

Current events
I'm thinking... Should we rename this section to "Important events" or something given how infrequently it's updated? Then we could also add future events to it--likedates for the new anime adaptation, etc. Canary 06:29, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
- Okay, well, I'm going to change it for now (because I think today's event is at least of peripheral relevance). We can always change things back later, after all. Also: I didn't change the "h2 id" because I have no idea what that is. Also: I kind of want to make page(s) for the other Tanaka series, but it's not really something we need. Shoulder badges
Did anybody try to analyze the shoulder badges used in the FPA fleet?
- What do you mean by analyze? The patches are listed https://gineipaedia.com/wiki/Free_Planets_Star_Fleet#Licensed_sources Iracundus 12:42, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
- Yeah those. Probably I should try colorize them or something. But I guess it would be difficult to find all of them in the anime. BTW, the Iserlohn patch spells "Iselrone". Hellerick 15:01, 12 September 2016 (UTC)
- All those patches do I think appear, even if briefly in the anime. The patch is indeed misspelled. It is one of those internal spell checking errors in the series. Iracundus 04:46, 13 September 2016 (UTC)
Premiere
Anyone got any idea how us non-Japanese plebs could watch the new series? How long do we think we'll have to wait for fansubs? Vympel 00:08, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
- Depends if any group is waiting to do it as soon as it airs. Incidentally new info and character designs available https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2018-03-01/legend-of-the-galactic-heroes-tv-anime-adds-6-cast-members/.128453 Those Alliance uniforms just don't do it for me. The Imperial uniforms are alright, albeit uninspired. The character designs though are meh, and that's being generous IMO. Iracundus 15:28, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
- The uniforms are alright but I don't liked the face and hair design of the characters. —Goldenbaum Loyalist 18:45, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
- The official site has Frederica Greenhill now. The face and hair design look like generic pretty girl. We also get to see the emblems for both sides. Iracundus 13:34, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
- I guess I can tolerate the new character designs, but I find the Alliance uniform design to be too garish for my taste. The same goes for its emblem (the Imperial one is also not much better). Glacierfairy 03:55, 16 March 2018 (UTC)
- Can I get a link to Greenhill's design and the new emblems? Impossible to find for me. Vympel 01:30, 19 March 2018 (UTC)
- Here is the link. Just scroll down the page and you will see it. Glacierfairy 02:26, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
- Cheers! Yeah, not a fan of her design. Vympel 13:48, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
- https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/daily-briefs/2018-03-22/new-legend-of-the-galactic-heroes-anime-posts-visual-screenshots-episode-1-intro/.129332 Looks like that may be Hyperion. Really not liking the Alliance ship designs which seem to be just random lumpish blocks. Iracundus 11:25, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
- Its like they want to have their cake and eat it too. It's not a remake of the OVA, but the Brünhild is clearly inspired by the OVA original, and so is the Hyperion (same color). Vympel 05:53, 27 March 2018 (UTC)
- The 2nd PV is out. Looks like they have decided to retain the Empire using German and the Alliance using English. It is really hard to differentiate the Alliance rank insignia though. Glacierfairy 08:37, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
- That actually looks pretty good to me. The ships look great, and they even remade the shot where the Alliance battleship fires through its own ally. Vympel 09:57, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
- The Alliance insignia seems to be a combination of sleeve and collar. For example, the branch of the military seems to be denoted by the collar symbol, with the command staff apparently having different length of laurels on their collar, while the fleet command is denoted by the inverted red chevrons (in place of the OVA orange kerchief). We see also that the Imperial fighters retain the 180 degree rotatable thrusters. I just hope they retain the focus showing the strategy and formations instead of just showing random action shots and random ships in a confused brawl. Right now the hardest thing for me is trying to differentiate the different classes of ships. Iracundus 11:50, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
The opening sequence and song is out at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5fk80I3orw The lyrics are pretty gibberish though. We can see some more characters and also a few more ships such as Triglav and Barbarossa. The ending sequence and song is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=li4OJEKoA8o Iracundus 08:56, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
Leaked unsubbed 1st episode at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_2OskXwsg0&feature=youtu.be and is essentially the Battle of Astarte all over again. Fahrenheit's flagship is given as Heimdall and Merkatz's is Minerva (which is a break from the Norse naming convention). The Imperial UI strangely seems to use English, and those Imperial bridge crew seats look uncomfortable with no backs and round seat bottoms. So far they seem to be following the OVA for pacing so I have no idea how much they will be able to cover in 12 episodes. Iracundus 09:41, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
- Assuming they cut away the OVA-only scenes from the original adaptation (such as 'When the Rain of Grief Comes...'), and choose not to include 'The Klopstock Incident' and 'The Actress Exits' which are from the Gaiden, I think 12 episodes would be sufficient to cover up till the Battle of Amritsar. On a side note, both the OP and the ED sound uninspired to me. Glacierfairy 11:02, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
- The OP has a catchy bit in the middle but it is pretty generic pop, and the lyrics are gibberish really. The lyrics of the OVA openings bore some relation to overall story. 'The Klopstock Incident' and 'The Actress Exits' were useful IMO to show the internal state of the Empire, with its palace intrigues, just as 'Jessica's Struggle' was necessary to show the internal state of the Alliance. So far in episode 1 we see they have focused almost exclusively on the Imperial POV, cutting out the pre-battle Yang bits where he exhorted concentration of forces instead of trying for the Dagon 3 sided envelopment and Lapp died offscreen. Iracundus 11:29, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
- My impression with episode 1 is that the battles felt way too fast (granted, they are supposed to be quick routs) and lacking in impact. It also seemed to lack the sense of massive distances from the OVA. I think I can get used of the new spaceship designs but they move way too much like generic fictional spaceships. I still prefer the OVA spaceships where they at least exhibit auxiliary thrusters for turning. And of course, the lack of a classical soundtrack is very disconcerting. Glacierfairy 12:05, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
- I agree on the speed of the battles, and also the speed of the ship turns. It makes them lack a sense of mass and scale. Also I did not like how the ships banked like airplanes when they turned, as there is no need to bank in space, and in the OVA, the ships did not bank. The battle diagram did not convey how spread apart the Alliance's 3 fleets where, because they looked like they were next door to each other. Iracundus 12:12, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
- Lapp dying offscreen is one of the factors that made the battle feel too fast in my opinion. Hopefully they would backtrack to it in episode 2. I'm also concerned about how they would treat Jessica since her voice actress has not been revealed yet. Glacierfairy 14:08, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
- Worst case scenario would have Jessica cut out entirely, but that in turn weakens the impact of Lapp's death. That could be why Lapp does not have an extended death scene. Iracundus 14:37, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
I went and rewatched the original episode 1 and compared it with the new episode 1. Turns out in the old episode 1 the 4th and 6th Fleets got destroyed extremely fast as well (perhaps even faster?). The main difference is that the old episode interspersed the battle scenes with scenes of Yang and the 2nd Fleet, thus creating the illusion of the passage of time. Overall, the new episode is comprised of the battle sequence of Overture to a New War compressed into the timeframe of a standard 24 minute episode like the old episode 1, so I guess one can say they tried to portray too much with too little time. Glacierfairy 15:12, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
- The OVA also had the tactic of sometimes using the intro and ending time to squeeze out a few more minutes of content. Iracundus 15:24, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
Sadly, I missed out on the leak of the first episode. Apparently crunchyroll has the streaming rights. No idea if that includes englis subs. Vympel 07:58, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
