Design

The standard Alliance destroyer design shared many design similarities with other Alliance designs. It was essentially rectangular in shape with a box-like prow mounting the main weapons and one main engine in the rear.

It mounted 6 beam cannons in the front as its main armament. Secondary weapons include a box launcher of missiles on the dorsal hull near the bridge and point defence lasers. (LOGH: 'The Two-Headed Snake: The Battle of Rantemario', 'The Battle of Marr-Adetta Starzone (Part One)')

Role and Capabilities

The Alliance destroyer served commonly as escorts to battleships and flagships. Its small size and mobility also made it well suited for fighting in denser areas such as asteroid fields and debris fields. They also excelled at a fleet scouting role. (LOGH: 'The Two-Headed Snake: The Battle of Rantemario', 'The Battle of Marr-Adetta Starzone (Part One)', 'A Challenge to Arms')

Like all Alliance warships, it was not capable of directly landing on planets.

Destroyers are commonly commanded by lieutenant commanders and lieutenant serving as executive officers.

Licensed sources

The standard Alliance destroyer was the smallest warp capable Alliance warship. It was designed to defend against small craft such as the Imperial gunship, and therefore had high thrust engines and rapid fire cannons.

It was also used to patrol and form picket lines to prevent enemy penetration of fleet formations.

As its main defensive weapon against enemy small craft, it carried the LMG-20 5.5 cm laser. This was a ruby laser design and capable of firing in beam and rapid pulse mode, with pulse mode as the default. The typical pulse settings had 16 to 33 nanosecond intervals between pulses. Energy was provided by explosive chemical cartridges. Each was cylindrical with a diameter of 10 cm and was 25 cm long. Each cartridge when used provided energy sufficient for 3,300 pulses.
