Service history
The Alvíss served as flagship of the Lippstadt League's entire fleet during the Imperial Civil War in 797 UC (488 IC / 3597 CE). It commanded the Lippstadt fleets when they sortied out of Geiersberg Fortress in an ill-fated attempt to defeat the forces of Reinhard von Lohengramm. Drawn into a trap, Braunschweig beat a hasty retreat to the fortress, and the Alvíss was damaged before it was rescued by the fleet of High Admiral Merkatz. (DNT: 'Tragedy')
With the Lippstadt League's fleet much reduced by the fiasco, and defeat inevitable, Duke Braunschweig allowed Baron Flegel to take the Alvíss and sortie with the remains of his fleet again soon after, in an attempt to kill Marquis Lohengramm and save the situation. The attack failed, and Flegel was killed by his own men after a failed attempt to engage one of the enemy flagships with the Alvíss in a one-on-one battle. The Alvíss then escaped the battle. (DNT: 'The Fall of Goldenbaum')
Design
The Alvíss was identical to the Ostmark in design. Though at first glance it bore no resemblance to an Imperial battleship, it appeared to be a heavily modified standard battleship design, with an identical engine arrangement. The most obvious differences were the large port and starboard structures attached to the main hull, which appeared to serve as physical shields to protect the main hull. The primary hull was also substantially modified with large multi-layered plates arrayed to the ventral and dorsal side of the main hull.
Armament was also extremely heavy, with at least 146 forward facing cannons and an usually heavy rear cannon armament, together with the usual port and starboard mounted missile launchers of a standard imperial battleship.
