Farewell to the Days of Old (Japanese: さらば、遠き日) is the 23rd episode of Legend of Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These.

Synopsis
A victory celebration is held in Geiersburg Fortress, during which Reinhard von Lohengramm receives prisoners-of-war from the Lippstadt League. Adalbert von Fahrenheit is released and joins the ranks of Reinhard's admirals. Ansbach comes in with Otho von Braunschweig's coffin, takes out a weapon concealed in the coffin and tries to shoot Reinhard with it. A timely intervention by Siegfried Kircheis causes him to miss; however, in the ensuing melee, Ansbach manages to kill Kircheis, and then commits suicide. Reinhard is devastated by his friend's death and is unable to make any decisions for an extended period of time. Meanwhile, Paul von Oberstein suggests to the rest of Reinhard's admirals to seize this opportunity to get rid of Prime Minister Klaus von Lichtenlade and assert Reinhard's supremacy once and for all. The admirals rush back to Odin, and arrest Lichtenlade for allegedly masterminding an attempted assassination of Reinhard, as well as securing the Imperial Seal to establish Reinhard's authority. Reinhard finally recovers and speaks to Annerose von Grünewald, who decides to retire to a residence of her own choice, causing him to feel left alone. He then instructs Oskar von Reuenthal to induce Lichtenlade to commit suicide and to harshly treat the latter's family, before returning back to Odin.
