Misc

Thought this might be fun, just as a trivia sort of thing. I know there are many more than this but i've mostly limited myself to what articles we have so far. Feel free to add others, and to fill in any episode/date gaps. Also i'm not sure what to list as the affiliation and circumstances for a few of these. (The # column is eventually intended to be a chronological list — for example, i think Pastoll might be the first person in the series to die, so he'd be 001, Lappe is probably 002 or 003, and so on.)  ♥ kine @ 14:25, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

Oh, cool. One thing you could do in terms of those killed in action is to check their corresponding flagship page. I always add the date of destruction of the ship if its known - it usually is (Battle of Amritsar and all the preceding battles in the different systems is unknown with the exception of being October 796, though). Oh, yeah, that'd work. I must admit i could have filled in a bit more than i have if i wanted, but i sort of got tired of it :x  ♥ kine @ 14:33, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
Very cool. I like it. One suggestion--it's a bit number-heavy. Perhaps we could change the date format to something like "799 U.C. April 28?" Canary 21:04, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
I thought about that, but aside from the fact that the number format is more compact, i think the biggest problem is that you don't get fine-grained sorting that way. When you sort the tables, it goes alphabetically, so it'd be like April, December, February, &c. With the numbers you avoid that problem  ♥ kine @ 21:52, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
Ah. I see. One more thing I think might use some changing... "Circumstances" to "Cause of Death" (it's more "proper," I guess) and "In action" should have a verb--killed in action for deaths we see in battle, missing for those we don't. I dunno. Canary 21:00, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
That i can get behind. I think i had something else in mind with that column when i first started, but i don't remember what it was. Must not have been important! Changed as you asked  ♥ kine @ 02:50, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Trung note

Note to self (putting this here since we don't seem to have a dedicated article for him yet): I don't know whether Trung Yu Chan is meant to be a Vietnamese name or a Chinese one. Trung is definitely a Vietnamese-looking surname, but Yu Chan is a Chinese given name.

My best guess at the moment, without delving too much into it, is that the name is intended to be Chinese, and the translators simply mistranslated 'Chen' or 'Cheong' or some other Chinese name to a Vietnamese one. The kana seem to support this at first glance at least, but i really know nothing about the transliteration of Vietnamese names into Japanese....

Anyway. It's important to this page because if it's Vietnamese the name would be listed as 'Trung, Chan Yu' and if it's Chinese it'd be 'Trung, Yu Chan'. I've listed it here as the latter for the time being at least.  ♥ kine @ 21:21, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

As it turns out, this is not something that i actually had to think about.... The DVD actually provides his name as Chung Wu-Cheng. From the very little i know about Chinese i think Wu-Cheng would be an unusual given name, but it certainly does solve the problem :)  ♥ kine @ 06:11, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

More people

This is a list of people that i recall dying, or that our ship pages indicate died. I'm not adding them to the list just yet because i have to admit i don't remember much about most of these guys. I guess De Villier and the fake Grand Bishop both die in 110 though.

 ♥ kine @ 20:32, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

I can add some of this stuff over the coming days / weeks. In relation hoghwood(LD)/hawood(DVD) - he doesn't die as far as we know. 7th Fleet was surrounded and he surrendered. Al-Salem was severely wounded, but his death was never confirmed.Vympel 23:52, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
Roger that. Maybe we should have a Feature: page dedicated to characters whose status is indeterminate (Staden, Erwin Josef, &c.)...  ♥ kine @ 00:48, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
Update: Added the three listed above plus Ulanhu's aide (Chen). Do we know for sure if Appleton dies? There's a scene where he's looking around frantically, but so far i haven't found confirmation. I'm just skipping through it, though, so i might easily have missed it. Never mind, i found it :)
Also, unrelated to this: How do you guys feel about the 'Shown?' column? Is it useful? If it is, what metric should we use to determine whether it was shown? For example, we never see the moment of death for either Thorndike or Lennenkampf, we only see their bodies after the fact. Does that qualify as being 'shown'? Right now i'm saying yes, but i sort of have misgivings, i don't know  ♥ kine @ 00:28, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
Forgot about the talk page - I don't think there's anything wrong with having a Shown column. As for the metric, I'd say seeing the body counts as seeing the death. Lang is a special case though - we don't see him executed, but we see the casket afterwards, closed. I'd say that qualifies as a No, what do you think? Vympel 15:06, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Overview update?

Anyway to get the overview to auto-update? Because it doesn't seem practical otherwise. Vympel 12:24, 18 August 2011 (UTC)

I definitely thought about it, but i couldn't really come up with something that'd work. We'll just have to try to remember to update it when we add stuff, unfortunately  ♥ kine @ 22:19, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
