Galactic Federation Parliament

The Galactic Federation Parliament (Japanese: 銀河連邦議会) was the main legislative body of the Galactic Federation. Members of parliament were elected to office by the general populace; whichever political party held a majority of the seats in parliament would select a Prime Minister to preside over the legislature; all parliamentarians would vote upon one of their number to serve as President.
When the Galactic Federation was reorganized into an Empire, the Galactic Federation Parliament was transformed into the Imperial Senate.
History
In the last years of the Galactic Federation Parliament, Rudolf von Goldenbaum held both the position of president and prime minister concurrently, something that was contrary to the custom, but not explicitly illegal. He used this position to consolidate power around himself an a dictatorship, eventually founding the first Galactic Empire in 310 UC (1 IC / 3110 CE). At this time the Federation Parliament became the Imperial Senate, which was dissolved by Rudolf in 318 UC (9 IC / 3118 CE) after the Senate denounced the Inferior Genes Exclusion Act.(LOGH: 'Julian's Journey, Mankind's Journey' Legend of Galactic Heroes Volume 1: Dawn)
Legacy
The Federation's parliament was most likely the model for the Free Planets Alliance.
After Reinhard von Lohengramm established his New Galactic Empire, a group of nobles led by Karl Braque Eugen Richter advocated the restoration of the senate. By the time of his death in 801 UC (3 NIC / 492 IC / 3601 CE), Reinhard had thoroughly transformed the galaxy with sweeping social and political reforms, but it is unknown whether he personally intended to create a new legislative body for his empire. He instructed his successor, Hildegarde von Lohengramm to restore the senate, or not, as she saw fit.
