The Grand Bishop (Japanese: 総大主教) was the supreme head of the Terraist Church and effective ruler of the planet Terra. By 796 UC (487 IC / 3596 CE), this position was held by an old man who turned out to be the last Grand Bishop of the Church before the destruction of its headquarters in 799 UC (1 NIC / 490 IC / 3599 CE) by the New Galactic Empire and its subsequent downfall in 801 UC (3 NIC / 492 IC / 3601 CE).

History
It can be assumed that the position of "Grand Bishop" existed since the establishment of the Terraist Church; however, nothing is known about past Grand Bishops and even the identity of the man who would be the last Grand Bishop is also unknown. What is known is that he inherited the age-old Terraist conspiracy of restoring Terra as the centre of human civilisation and wholeheartedly believed in Terra's right to rule. To achieve this, he continued the proselytising of Terraism throughout the galaxy and provided support to a number of influential political figures in the galaxy, most notably Adrian Rubinsky of the Dominion of Fezzan and Job Trunicht of the Free Planets Alliance, while attempting to assassinate political figures that would be a threat to the Terraist cause, such as Reinhard von Lohengramm. (LOGH: 'New Trends', 'Victory for Whose Sake?', 'The Kümmel Incident')
Despite his efforts however, the last Grand Bishop proved to be no match to the might of Reinhard von Lohengramm. After Terraist involvement in the failed assassination attempt of Kaiser Reinhard by the terminally-ill Baron Heinrich von Kümmel in July 799 UC (1 NIC / 490 IC / 3599 CE) was exposed, Kaiser Reinhard immediately ordered the military subjugation of Terra. As the subjugation force led by August Samuel Wahlen stormed the Terraist headquarters beneath Mt Kanchenjunga, the Grand Bishop ordered the self-destruction of the headquarters in a last-ditch effort to repel the invading Imperial soldiers and perished together with large number of Terraists on 28 July 799 UC (1 NIC / 490 IC / 3599 CE). (LOGH: 'The Kümmel Incident', 'Holy Land')
Legacy
The Grand Bishop was a highly revered figure within the Terraist Church, and the last Grand Bishop in particular was known to provide spiritual guidance to devout Terraists on a daily basis. His influence was so great that Archbishop De Villie, who took over the leadership of the Church after his demise, found it expedient not to announce his death and instead brainwashed a delusional man to pose as the Grand Bishop. With the deaths of De Villie and the last of the Terraists, including the imposter, in 801 UC (3 NIC / 492 IC / 3601 CE), the Terraist Church ceased to exist as an organisation and along with it, the position of Grand Bishop.
