History

Herxheimer with Littenheim (792 UC (483 IC / 3592 CE))

Imperial noble

By January 792 UC (483 IC / 3592 CE), Count Herxheimer had gotten into a dispute with the husband of Viscountess Dorothea von Schafhausen over mining rights of a vein of newly-discovered hydro metal. Since he knew that Schafhausen's husband was too old too duel and that no professional duellist would help them, Herxheimer challenged them to a duel. However, Reinhard von Lohengramm (then Müsel) ended up agreeing to duel for her husband, as she was one of the few allies that his sister Annerose von Grünewald had at court. (DUEL: 'Chapter I')

The duel gained quite a bit of attention from the other high nobles, and Herxheimer initially hired a master duellist to fight against Müsel. However, that man was killed by an assassin hired by Sussanna von Beenemünde, another noble that opposed Annerose and Reinhard, who then installed himself as Herxheimer's agent, with the intention of killing Reinhard. When the duel took place, it occurred in one of Littenheim's arenas, who made it available for Herxheimer. The duel was attended by many other nobles of the Imperial court. Although it seemed he would win the duel at first, a group of Imperial Guards intervened before it concluded, saying that Kaiser Friedrich IV ordered it to stop and that the mining rights would be split between them equally. (DUEL: 'Chapter II', 'Chapter III')

Defection and death

In December of that year, Herxheimer found information that Duke Otho von Braunschweig's daughter Elisabeth carried a genetic disease passed down from her mother. However, since the Duke's wife was a sister of Littenheim's wife, it would mean that Littenheim's daughter Sabine would also be ineligible to inherit the throne. As a result, the Marquis tried to have Herxheimer and his family killed, poisoning the count's wife. Herxheimer attempted to defect to the Alliance with a prototype of the Empire's newly developed directional Seffle particle generator. He took with him his entire family including his daughter, Margareta, through the Fezzan corridor, but ended up dying during a decompression accident aboard his ship. (RET: 'Chapter II', 'Chapter IV')

Personal life

Herxheimer had a wife, who was poisoned by Littenheim after he found out the Marquis's family secret, and a daughter, Margareta von Herxheimer. He was a relative and supporter of Littenheim, suggesting at one point that his daughter Sabine may even become the kaiserin. (DUEL: 'Chapter I', 'Chapter IV', RET: 'Chapter IV')
