Design
Larger than a standard Imperial battleship, the fast battleship design had five separate engines mounted at the rear of the hull.
The ship was also more heavily armed, with twelve cannons in the bow in 2 groups of 6 and at least six cannons on both the port and starboard side.
The vessel also carried a Walküre fighter complement. (LOGH: 'The Battle of Amritsar Starzone')
Role and Capabilities
The fast battleship design fought in all known fleet battles from at least 794 UC (485 IC / 3594 CE) to 801 UC (3 NIC / 492 IC / 3601 CE), forming part of all Imperial fleets. Unique amongst the Imperial fleets, the Black Lancers under Fritz Joseph Bittenfeld had a much higher concentration of fast battleships (painted black, like all ships of the Black Lancers) in its forces than any other fleet.
Larger, more heavily armed and faster than a standard battleship, the fast battleship had high profile roles in several notable fleet actions outside of its prime position in the Black Lancers - including the Kircheis Fleet's defeat of the Littenheim Fleet in the Imperial Civil War and the Wahlen Fleet's subjugation of Terra. (LOGH: 'Courage and Loyalty', 'Visitors')
In addition to its combat role, the fast battleship was sometimes adopted as a flagship by certain Imperial admirals - including Rear Admiral Siegfried Kircheis prior to his being granted the unique flagship Barbarossa, and Vice Admiral Adalbert von Fahrenheit in the aftermath of the Lippstadt Rebellion. (LOGH: 'The Castrop Rebellion', 'Farewell, Distant Memories')
Like a standard battleship, the fast battleship could enter planetary atmospheres and land on the surface. (LOGH: 'Farewell, Distant Memories', 'Visitors')

The Imperial fast battleship carried two groups of 6 cannons each. The first upper group consisted of large calibre long range cannons, while the second lower group was composed of medium calibre cannons for medium to short range fire.
There was a second dedicated reactor to meet the high energy needs of this main armament.
The cluster of 5 engines, 3 large, and 2 secondary, provided high thrust. At maximum thrust output, one large engine unit could put out as much thrust as the entire engine output of a standard Imperial battleship. Propellant consumption was high so these ships required frequent resupply. The Black Lancers had a group of dedicated supply ships for their use, also painted in black.
In atmospheric flight, the two secondary engines were used. Air intakes situated behind armoured doors would take in air, heat it, and expel out the rear for propulsion.
On the dorsal hull, behind the bridge, were 2 shuttles, each with a capacity of 60 men, for use in quick evacuation.
On either side of the lower engine section were hangars for 3 Walküre fighters, for a total of 6 fighters.
Due to the focus and priority placed on the enlarged weapon and engine sections, crew quarters were more limited. Crew in the engine section were known to "hot bunk" and on extended long campaigns, there were examples of some crew being housed on accompanying supply ships. (Fleet File Collection Vol.4)
