Talk:Walküre

Name translation (or lack thereof)
A somewhat uncomfortable but necessary thought occurred to me the other day: The Valkyrie is never once referred to by that exact name in the series. Each time it appears it is "Walküre" — with the quotes, indicating it's not meant to be translated. Also, the Japanese spelling/pronunciation given in the series (ワルキューレ) more closely matches the original German than it does the English Valkyrie (which would be バルキリー or ヴァルキリー).
Given the above and the precedent established for every other immutable German name in the series (e.g. we don't call them King's Tiger or Nuremberg or Carinthia), it seems like we should therefore refer to these always as Walküre fighters.
As far as the plural case (German Walküren or the pseudo-English Walküres), i don't have a good solution to that... ♥ kine @ 08:15, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
- Missed this until now - yeah I'm inclined to agree. Vympel 13:59, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- I agree too and opt for the German plural form Walküren. Saga, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
