Units of Measure

The Galactic Empire uses Terra's metric system despite the fact that the basis for those units is only meaningful to residents of Terra.

In order to provide a system with a universal basis, Rudolf von Goldenbaum proposed the kaiser-faden and kaiser-centner as new units of measure by based on his height and weight respectively. During an audience with Kläfe exploring the cost of such a transition, he was presented an estimated economic cost to implement the new system by replacing every computer memory chip and measuring instrument throughout the entire galaxy. The sheer cost of that plan (which may have been intentionally inflated) dissuaded the Kaiser from ordering the change. (Legend of Galactic Heroes Volume 1: Dawn)
