Klaus von Lichtenlade (Japanese: クラウス・フォン・リヒテンラーデ) was Minister of State and acting Prime Minister of the Galactic Empire under Kaiser Friedrich IV and, briefly, Erwin Josef II. He was effectively leader of the Empire's civil administration as the position and title of Prime Minister had been left vacant and taboo since the time of Otfried III. Although he held the title of Marquis (later elevated to Duke after the ascension of Erwin Josef II), as a palace courtier, Lichtenlade lacked influence and power outside the palace, unlike the Kaiser's maternal relatives such as Duke Otho von Braunschweig or Marquis Wilhelm von Littenheim. He thus decided to back Reinhard von Lohengramm in the wake of the passing of Friedrich IV to shore up his own power, since by tradition he was supposed to have resigned upon the death of the Kaiser. His peerage was increased to Duke. The alliance with Reinhard von Lohengramm resulted in the two of them putting Erwin Josef II to on the throne, who was not backed by the high nobles. This alliance proved to be short-lived after Reinhard's subordinates swiftly apprehended him at the end of the Imperial Civil War for allegedly plotting against Reinhard, forcing him to commit suicide.
