The planet Kapche-Lanka (791 UC (482 IC / 3591 CE))

Kapche-Lanka (Japanese: カプチェランカ) is a frozen planet which shares with the gas giant Legnica an unnamed starzone in the Iserlohn Corridor. The planet was constantly contested by the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance during the Alliance–Imperial War.

Strategic significance

Whilst Kapche-Lanka did possess considerable natural resources of what appear to be hydrocarbons, it was not vital to either the Alliance or the Empire. Combat on the planet's surface continued simply because neither side wished to see the other claim it. Both sides maintained ground bases with tank forces and some resource extraction facilities.

Kapche-Lanka is also notable for being the site of Reinhard von Lohengramm's first military victories. He and Siegfried Kircheis were instrumental in defeating an Alliance tank attack on the Imperial base and subsequently also played a role in the attack and destruction of the Alliance base on the planet in July 791 UC (482 IC / 3591 CE). For their accomplishments, they were both promoted and transferred off the planet and back to fleet duties. Six months after their departure, an Alliance counterattack wiped out the Imperial base and garrison. (SWV: 'Chapter IV')

Climate

Out of a 668 day year, over 600 days had wintry conditions with almost daily blizzards. These conditions rendered the planet unsuitable for regular use of aircraft so most of the fighting on the planet consisted of ground battles, mainly involving armoured vehicles such as the Imperial Panzer IV and its Alliance counterpart. Background information

The name Kapche-Lanka appears to be derived from 'Kapcharanka', the name of a small village in the Republic of Buryatia, a subject of the Russian Federation.
