Service history
The flagship of the 9th Fleet, the Palamedes participated in the Alliance invasion of Imperial territory. With Alliance supply lines cut off, the 9th Fleet was engaged by the Mittermeyer Fleet. The fleet was able to withdraw and regroup with the remaining Alliance forces at the Battle of Amritsar, but the final fate of the Palamedes is unclear. (DNT: 'The Verge of Death (Part Two)', 'Amritsar')
Design
The Palamedes, like most Alliance flagships, was a modified version of the Alliance's standard battleship design. As with the majority of Alliance flagships, key distinguishing features were the four antennae protruding from the dorsal, ventral, port and starboard side of the rear hull. It carried substantially heavier forward armament than a standard battleship, and was further distinguishable by its curved bow and additional armament emplacements protruding from either side of the dorsal hull, ahead of the bridge. The Palamedes was visually identical to the 12th Fleet flagship, the Cernunnos and the 6th Fleet flagship, the Pergamonn.

Background information
The name Palamedes is likely a reference to the Greek mythological figure Palamedes, the son of Nauplius who was ultimately stoned to death by Odysseus and Diomedes. Palamedes is also the name of a Saracen knight who figures into both Arthurian legend and the tale of Tristan and Isolde. However, this reference would be more fitting for the Galactic Empire given references to these two mythoi in their vessel names.

The Palamedes is not named in its only appearance in DNT: 'The Verge of Death (Part Two)', though the detail of its name and pennant number can be partially discerned. It's name and pennant number are detailed in the Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These Official Artworks Complete Edition.
