Service history
Flagship of the Kircheis Fleet, the Barbarossa's combat debut was in the campaign against the rebellion of Maximilian von Castrop in 796 UC (487 IC / 3596 CE). Commanding a fleet of 5,000 ships, Rear Admiral Kircheis successfully isolated Castrop's flagship and used the Barbarossa herself to confront Castrop's ship at close range, ultimately causing Castrop's troops to mutiny. (DNT: 'The Castrop Rebellion')
The Barbarossa next fought in the Imperial counterattack against the Free Planets Alliance's invasion of Imperial space in 796 UC (487 IC / 3596 CE). Leading a fleet of over 20,000 ships, the Barbarossa oversaw the destruction of the Alliance's supply fleet, the defeat of the 7th Fleet, and the subsequent battle with the 13th Fleet. When the remnants of the Alliance fleet regrouped and faced the Imperial fleets at the Battle of Amritsar, the Barbarossa attacked the fleet from their rear at the head of 30,000 ships, using its main guns to ignite the Seffle particles dispersed on Vice Admiral Kircheis' orders, and clearing a path through the Alliance minefield. (DNT: 'The Verge of Death (Part One)', 'The Verge of Death (Part Two)', 'Amritsar')
Design
The Barbarossa's design is unlike any other Imperial ship. Along with its aggressive geometry and a bright red hull, the Barbarossa features a large hull transparency wrapping around both the dorsal and ventral side of the prow extending towards the midships position. The transparency mounts at least a pair of cannons (one each on the dorsal and ventral side of the prow) capable of firing both standard shots and significantly larger beams. Additional forward armament is mounted on a pair of canard-like structures (3 cannons each) to the port and starboard side of the prow. (DNT: 'The Verge of Death (Part Two)')
