Synopsis
The Alliance expeditionary force manages to occupy numerous Imperial star systems without encountering any resistance. However, it ends up being saddled with the task of feeding the liberated people of the Empire, as all of their food and supplies have been withdrawn by the Empire as part of Reinhard von Lohengramm's scorched earth strategy. This causes an enormous strain on the Alliance supply line, and Alex Cazerne, who is in charge of the logistics of the expeditionary force, tries to warn supreme commander Lasalle Lobos about the severity of the situation, but is rebuffed and is ordered instead to just request for more supplies from the homeland.
Facing the growing lack of supplies, Yang Wen-li decides to prepare for a withdrawal. First, he convinces the 10th Fleet commander Ulanhu who is leading the vanguard to prepare for withdrawal as well. Next, he asks the 5th Fleet commander Alexandre Bewcock to persuade the rest of the fleet commanders to do the same and to seek a retreat order from fleet headquarters. Meanwhile, riots have already broken out in the territories occupied by the 8th Fleet. However, when Bewcock tries to seek the retreat order from Lobos, he is greeted by Andrew Falk, who insists on relaying Bewcock's request through him. A frustrated Bewcock then rebukes Falk, who becomes so shocked that he experiences a seizure and promptly passes out. Nevertheless, Bewcock is still unable to obtain the retreat order as Lobos is resting and has given the order not to be disturbed unless the enemy attacks.
Back in Odin, Reinhard orders Siegfried Kircheis to lead a fleet to intercept and destroy the Alliance supply convoy requested by the expeditionary force, and then departs together with the rest of his subordinate fleet commanders for an all-out counterattack against the Alliance expeditionary force.
