Synopsis
In the Free Planets Alliance, Alexandre Bewcock tries to warn the Alliance National Defence Committee about a possible Fezzan Corridor attack, but is ignored. Oskar von Reuenthal commences the first phase of Operation Ragnarök by laying siege on Iserlohn Fortress. With a well-timed pinpoint missile bombardment, Reuenthal manages to prevent Iserlohn from firing the Thor Hammer. He then orders Cornelius Lutz's fleet to advance, which draws out the Iserlohn Garrison Fleet. Before the Iserlohn Garrison Fleet is able to intercept the Lutz Fleet, the latter closes in to melee range and forces a battle of attrition. When Reuenthal sees Yang Wen-li's flagship Hyperion emerging from Iserlohn, he decides to rush his fleet to destroy the Hyperion and end the battle quickly. However, this is a feint and the Rosen Ritter led by Walter von Schönkopf manages to board Reuenthal's flagship and engages in close quarters combat with the ship's crew. The battle is a draw and Schönkopf eventually withdraws. Reuenthal then halts all offensives and makes a show of calling for reinforcements. The second phase of Operation Ragnarök begins with the launching of the rest of the expeditionary fleet.
