Service history
Alliance–Imperial War
The Königstiger's combat debut was in Reinhard von Lohengramm's campaign to defeat the Free Planets Alliance's invasion of Imperial space in 796 UC (487 IC / 3596 CE), with the Black Lancers engaging and defeating the 10th Fleet. At the subsequent Battle of Amritsar Starzone, the Königstiger launched an assault on the 13th Fleet and began launching Walküre fighters. Yang's fleet used this as an opening to inflict significant losses on the Black Lancers, leaving them too weak to prevent the surviving Alliance forces from breaking through and escaping in the closing stages of the battle. (DNT: 'The Verge of Death (Part Two)', 'Amritsar').
Imperial Civil War
The Königstiger served with Lohengramm's main fleet against the Lippstadt League in the Imperial Civil War in 797 UC (488 IC / 3597 CE), including the battles outside Geiersburg Fortress. At the end of the war, it raced back to Odin to seize control of the capital in Reinhard's name. (DNT: 'Bloodshed in Space', 'Tragedy', 'Farewell to the Days of Old')
Design
With the black hull of the Black Lancers, the Königstiger was a significantly different design than a standard imperial battleship, and more closely resembled the flagship Minerva in size and configuration. It had a very heavy forward armament in its prow, with many more gun ports than those of a standard imperial battleship (at least 52 compared to 18). It also featured four prominent emplacements mounted on the port and starboard stern of the vessel, fitted with missile launch tubes. Other missile launchers were located amidships on both the ventral and dorsal side of the vessel. Ten launch bays for Walküre fighters were arrayed on the ventral hull. (DNT: 'The Verge of Death (Part Two)')

Background information
The name Königstiger is a German phrase which translates literally to King's Tiger. It is a reference either to the World War II-era Tiger II tank, which carried this nickname, or to the German term for the Bengal tiger, after which the tank was named.
Unlike the Königs Tiger of the OVA, in Die Neue These, the name is transcribed as a single word.
