Service history
The Leonidas led the 4th Fleet against the Lohengramm Fleet at the Battle of Astarte in 796 UC (487 IC / 3596 CE). With the 4th Fleet completely unprepared for Lohengramm's attack, the Leonidas was struck by Imperial fire, blowing a hole in the hull over the ship's bridge. Vice Admiral Pastolle was sucked into the vacuum of space before the Leonidas exploded completely. (Overture to a New War)
Design
The Leonidas is very similar in design to the Leonidas II.

The modular construction of the Ajax class flagships achieved cost savings and allowed for flexibility in tailoring each flagship to the desired needs of each fleet commander and testing out new design paradigms. However as the number of variant ships increased, there was a growing call for complete standardisation and mass production of flagships in order to achieve even lower construction costs and to reduce the logistical burden of maintaining a range of variant flagships.
In April 791 UC (482 IC / 3591 CE) it was decided to conduct an experiment to test the flagship standardisation theory. Two completely identical flagships were designed and simultaneously built in the Heinessen 14th and 15th shipyards. The ship built in the 14th was the Leonidas and the other was the Leonidas II. Though there were significant cost savings, the time savings were less than expected and the evaluation committee decided against total standardisation of flagships. These two ships were the only two completely standardised Alliance flagships ever built.
The most distinctive feature of these two ships was the additional sensor module in the lower hull, which improved the ability to detect the enemy at long ranges. (Fleet File Collection Vol.8)

OVA/ONW appearance differences
The Leonidas appears slightly different in Overture to a New War in comparison to LOGH: 'In the Eternal Night'. Most prominently, the pennant numbers differ, as does the colour of the stripe on the ship's flanks. The shape of the dorsal hull leading towards the bow is also less aggressively canted, allowing for two additional port and starboard cannons. The OVA version of the Leonidas is identical in every way (except markings) to the Leonidas II. (Note that the Fleet File Collection Vol.8 covers the OVA Leonidas.)
Fleet File Collection
The Leonidas is included as a model in Fleet File Collection Vol.8.
