Service history
The Palamedes led the 9th Fleet in the Alliance invasion of Imperial territory in 796 UC (487 IC / 3596 CE). With Alliance forces suffering from a supply shortage due to Imperial attacks on their supply lines, the 9th Fleet was ambushed at extreme close range by the Mittermeyer Fleet in the Alviss System. The Palamedes was damaged in the opening moments of the battle, causing a cable to fly loose on the ship's bridge, which struck and severely wounded Vice Admiral al-Salem. The Palamedes's final fate is unknown. (LOGH: 'The Battle of Amritsar Starzone')

Background information
The name Palamedes is likely a reference to the Greek mythological figure Palamedes, the son of Nauplius who was ultimately stoned to death by Odysseus and Diomedes. (Palamedes is also the name of a Saracen knight who figures into both Arthurian legend and the tale of Tristan and Isolde. However, this reference would be more fitting for the Galactic Empire given the frequent references to these two mythoi in their vessel names.)
Licensed sources
The Palamedes was designed as a revision of the Quetzalcoatl and was also designed with a view towards long range combat. The sensor module in front of the bridge, in addition to incorporating the laser sensor previously seen on the Quetzalcoatl, included newly developed gravimetric sensors giving greatly increased long range detection ability.
In 794 UC (485 IC / 3594 CE), the Palamedes sustained moderate damage in the Battle of Van-Fleet when it was hit in its midsection by a laser fusion missile.
In 796 UC (487 IC / 3596 CE), in the Battle of Alviss, the ship was hit on its starboard side and sustained heavy damage, but survived to return to the Alliance.
With the effective disbandment of the 9th Fleet and the absorption of its surviving ships into other fleets, the damaged Palamedes was put into a long term orbit in the 8th orbital path around Heinessen. (Data Book: Mechanic & Seiyū Encyclopaedia, p. 122)
