Service history

The Patoroklos was assigned to lead the 2nd Fleet in a mission to evade the enemy and attack Iserlohn Fortress in 795 UC (486 IC / 3595 CE). It was met in battle by the Lohengramm Fleet in the atmosphere of the gas giant Legnica. The Patoroklos engaged Admiral Lohengramm's flagship Brünhild at close range, sustaining some superficial damage. When the Lohengramm Fleet rapidly ascended and ignited Legnica's volatile atmosphere, the Patoroklos itself was only saved by a timely ploy by Commodore Yang Wen-li and Lieutenant Commander Dusty Attemborough to make the ship ascend. The Patoroklos went on to fight in the Fourth Battle of Tiamat with the rest of the Alliance fleet. (My Conquest Is the Sea of Stars)

Surviving the battle, the Patoroklos sortied again at the head of the 2nd Fleet to engage the Lohengramm Fleet at the Battle of Astarte in January of 796 UC (487 IC / 3596 CE). With the 2nd Fleet at an immediate disadvantage against the numerically superior foe, the Patoroklos was struck by enemy fire near the bridge, wounding Vice Admiral Paetta. Commodore Yang took command of the fleet and forced a stalemate against the Imperial force. In the process, the Patoroklos engaged and destroyed the Imperial battleship Wallenstein, and scraped hulls with the battleship Kärnten. (Overture to a New War)

Presumably being absorbed into the newly formed 13th Fleet along with the rest of the survivors of the 2nd, 4th and 6th fleets, the Patoroklos was subsequently observed at the Battle of Doria Starzone in 797 UC (488 IC / 3597 CE) as part of the Yang Fleet. Background information

The name Patoroklos is a mistranslation of Patroklos (aka Patroclus), a figure in Greek mythology who was the closest friend of Achilles.

The Patoroklos was a representative ship of the Ajax flagship class. (Fleet File Collection Vol.2)

The missile launchers on board the Patoroklos were capable of accelerating missiles at 6G using electromagnetic fields. Different missiles with a variety of warhead types were carried, from high explosive to explosive fragmentation to nuclear fusion missiles using inertial containment fusion. The lasers on the sides of the ship were in ball mounts for tracking of small craft, and there were missile launchers in recessed hidden mountings. The secondary guns were generally under central fire control but in case of damage, could operate under local fire control.

The 4 fan shaped sensors protruding from the lower hull were used for intra-fleet communications.

The fighter launch facilities, unlike those of carriers, lacked gravitational inertial compensators, which made the launch process more stressful for pilots. (Fleet File Collection Vol.2)

Additional secondary guns were added and the faster than light communications antenna near the bridge were replaced during its first refit in 790 UC (481 IC / 3590 CE). (Data Book: Mechanic & Seiyū Encyclopaedia, p. 116)

The fusion reactor used extremely strong gravitational fields to fuse hydrogen, which was normally stored in the form of metallic hydrogen, again using gravitational fields.

The tail panels and fins could be angled to redirect the engine thrust. They were capable of 2 degrees of motion in the horizontal axis, and 3 degrees in the vertical axis. (Fleet File Collection Vol.2)

MCISS/OVA/ONW appearance differences

The Patoroklos appears slightly different in Overture to a New War in comparison to its appearance in LOGH: 'In the Eternal Night'. Particularly, the pennant numbers differ. In My Conquest Is the Sea of Stars, the Patoroklos bears no pennant numbers at all.
