Kaiser Otfried V on his deathbed
|Occupation:||Kaiser of the Galactic Empire|
|Status:||Deceased (natural causes)|
|Died:||765 UC (456 IC / 3565 CE)|
Otfried V (Japanese: オトフリート5世) was the 35th kaiser of the Galactic Empire.
Known for being very careful with the Empire's money, he was a very thrifty yet indecisive ruler. He ordered the construction of Iserlohn Fortress and placed the methodical Count Sebastian von Lüderitz in charge of the project, but also wavered and almost halted construction midway several times. When it became apparent that the fortress would be drastically over budget, Otfried V had Count Lüderitz take responsibility by forcing him to commit suicide. (Legend of the Galactic Heroes Gaiden: Julian's Iserlohn Diary)
In 761 UC (452 IC / 3561 CE), Otfried V's eldest son, Crown Prince Richard von Goldenbaum, was implicated in a plot to assassinate Kaiser Otfried V, and executed. Later in 764 UC (455 IC / 3564 CE), it was discovered that Richard had been innocent, and his younger brother, Grand Duke Clementz von Goldenbaum had framed him. Clementz died in an accident while attempting to flee to the Free Planets Alliance.
Otfried V was known to be thrifty more as a personal hobby than from a sense of responsibility as ruler of the Empire. Nonetheless the wealth he saved up would have been sufficient to cover all the treasury's debts, but it was all spent by his son Friedrich IV on personal pleasure after he ascended to the throne.
