The Imperial battleship Diarium (Japanese: ディアーリウム) was the flagship of Admiral Kosel.

Service history

The Diarium participated in the Second Battle of Tiamat. During the closing stages of that battle, Admiral Kosel's fleet came under combined attack from the front by the Alliance 5th Fleet and from its left flank by the 4th Fleet. At 18:37 11 December (745 UC (436 IC / 3545 CE)) the Diarium was hit simultaneously by 3 beams. Of the bridge crew of 24, 10 were immediately killed, including Admiral Kosel, 11 were heavily wounded, and 3 lightly wounded. The crippled flagship was then approached by multiple Alliance cruisers advising it to surrender. Rear Admiral Stekkel, himself heavily wounded, gave the order to surrender. The survivors were captured. The Diarium was presumably either captured, or scuttled due to its heavy damage. The Diarium was similar to the standard Imperial battleship of its era, but was enlarged with greater weaponry and more engines. It mounted a total of 12 engines at its rear: 6 engines in 3 dual housings dorsally and 6 engines in one large ventral housing. It was very similar in outward appearance to the Bergelmir and the Audhumla, being distinguished by its double row of 4 secondary guns on its main hull. It and its sister ships may be predecessors to later Imperial flagship designs like the Wilhelmina. DVD features

A scale comparison sketch between the Audhumla (sister ship of the Diarium) and a standard contemporary battleship appears in the extra features of the DVD box set. In addition there is a sketch of the bridge layout of these old Imperial flagships.
