Service history
The Kvasir's first campaign as the head of the Mecklinger Fleet was in Reinhard von Lohengramm's campaign to defeat the Free Planets Alliance's invasion of Imperial space in 796 UC (487 IC / 3596 CE). It would also fight in the major battles outside Geiersburg Fortress in the Imperial Civil War in 797 UC (488 IC / 3597 CE). (LOGH: 'The Battle of Amritsar Starzone', 'Courage and Loyalty', 'The Fall of Goldenbaum')
With the Mecklinger Fleet serving in a support role in the following campaigns, the Kvasir did not sortie again until 800 UC (2 NIC / 491 IC / 3600 CE), but it did not see active combat at either the Battle of the Corridor or Oskar von Reuenthal's rebellion. (LOGH: 'The Battle of the Corridor: The Invincible and the Undefeated', 'Live by the Sword...')

The Kvasir could be viewed as a battlecruiser as it occupied a role in-between that of a cruiser and full battleship. It was possible to mount smaller main thrusters and power systems than other flagships due to an overall reduction in mass compared to similar ships. The Kvasir had only 80% the mass of a similarly sized battleship. The smaller thrusters were more efficient in propellant consumption, resulting in less need for refueling and translating into improved operational range. (Data Book: Mechanic & Seiyū Encyclopaedia, p. 162, Fleet File Collection Vol.4)
The mass savings were achieved through reduction in the armour protection. Critical areas such as the bridge, engineering section, and weapons remained heavily armoured but other areas were less armoured. (Fleet File Collection Vol.4)
The main armament consisted of large calibre beam cannons arranged in an over and under arrangement of 6 cannons and 4 cannons. The smaller main power system had difficulties providing adequate energy for all these guns, so small secondary reactors were installed amidships. The hemispherical structures seen on either side in the middle of the forward hull were the access spaces for these reactors. Large calibre laser sensors were installed near the bridge to aid in extreme long range targeting. (Fleet File Collection Vol.4)
The lower hull was similar to the Brünhild and featured a large integrated set of sensors for enemy detection and fire control as well as a large aperture navigational sensor. (Fleet File Collection Vol.4)
Free Planets Alliance analysis of the ship design was based off of computer data recovered from surviving ships of the Alliance 8th Fleet after the Battle of Amritsar. Alliance analysis speculated that the Kvasir was vulnerable to destruction from high powered beam cannon hits due to its reduced armour, but that achieving such hits would be harder due to its greater mobility. (Data Book: Mechanic & Seiyū Encyclopaedia, p. 162)
Background information
The name Kvasir is a reference to the Norse mythological being of the same name, whose blood was made into a mead which imbued its drinkers with wisdom and introduced poetry to mankind.
