Martial (Japanese: マーテル) was an Imperial military officer who served as the second in command of the Imperial front line base BIII on the planet Kapche-Lanka in 791 UC (482 IC / 3591 CE). In July that year, he witnessed his superior, the base commander Captain Herder, attempting to murder the newly posted Ensign Reinhard von Müsel in the midst of an attack against an Alliance base on the planet. Martial's presence prevented the murder, but before he could intervene any further, Herder, fearing the punishment for high treason, committed suicide by jumping off a valley. Not wishing to involve himself in the court intrigues that caused Herder to plot against Reinhard in the first place, Martial simply reported that Herder was killed in action during the attack against the Alliance base and recommended commendations for both Reinhard and Siegfried Kircheis for their contributions in locating the Alliance base. Shortly afterwards, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and succeeded Herder as commander of the base BIII, but he was killed in action after the Alliance launched an attack on the base just six months later.
