History
His father, died in the Second Battle of Tiamat, wishing that Gregor would follow in his footsteps and become a military man. He did indeed, and became the most powerful man in the fleet rising to the same position his great-uncle Fleet Admiral Keltring held, and from at least 485 IC (794 UC / 3594 CE) served as the Chief Commander of the Space Fleet until the time of Reinhard von Lohengramm's ascension to power within the Galactic Empire, after which he promptly retired. (LOGH: 'New Trends')
A capable tactician, strategist, and leader, he was well regarded by much of the military, and with his rank as Fleet Admiral, he was key in any major decision regarding military operations for the Empire. His noble birth also made him acceptable to the high nobility. However he was derided by Reinhard for having only the appearance of dignity and competence, while being just as hidebound and unimaginative as the rest of the nobles and Imperial officer corps. (LOGH: 'New Trends', TBT: 'Part One')
After Reinhard rose to the rank of Vice Admiral and was put in command of his own fleet, Mückenberger took notice of him, and was initially as cynical and opposed to Reinhard's fast rise through the ranks as many other high nobles. Mückenberger became a key figure in the conspiracies that were launched against Reinhard during his time in the admiralty. However, seeing Reinhard successfully defeat every obstacle placed in front of him, whether Alliance or Imperial, Mückenberger began to see the bigger picture, and realize that Reinhard von Lohengramm had aspirations that he nor any other high noble could hope to contain.
After Kaiser Friedrich IV's sudden death in 488 IC (797 UC / 3597 CE), and the subsequent formation of the Lippstadt Alliance, Mückenberger seemed to have had enough of internal power struggles. Immediately after Kaiser Erwin Josef II was crowned with the support of Premier Klaus von Lichtenlade and the now Marquis Reinhard von Lohengramm, Duke Otho von Braunschweig and Marquis Wilhelm von Littenheim begin conspiring to remove the young Kaiser in favor of their own daughters. Mückenberger happened to be walking past them at this point, and was asked if he would join Braunschweig and Littenheim against Reinhard, as he had done so before, to which he responded that he was going to take his best opportunity to retire, and that he did not want to be caught up in useless struggles anymore. He then left them with a warning about their enemy saying, "I will give you one word of advice. That brat... No, Marquis Lohengramm, is a genius in war and politics. If you persist on making light of him, it will cost you dearly." Fleet Admiral Gregor von Mückenberger then took his leave before passing and saluting Reinhard one last time.
