Service history
The Vonkel was first observed during the the Imperial Civil War in 797 UC (488 IC / 3597 CE), when Rear Admiral Steinmetz was under the command of High Admiral Kircheis. The Vonkel was one of the ships to race back to Odin to effect a seizure of power from Marquis Lichtenlade after Reinhard von Lohengramm was victorious. (LOGH: 'Farewell, Distant Memories')
The Vonkel next campaigned as part of Operation Ragnarok from late 798 UC (489 IC / 3598 CE) to 799 UC (1 NIC / 490 IC / 3599 CE), fighting at the Battle of Rantemario as part of Fleet Admiral Lohengramm's main force. In the wake of guerilla attacks by the Alliance fleet under the command of Fleet Admiral Yang Wen-li, the Vonkel led its fleet in an attempt to hunt down and destroy Yang's forces. When the Steinmetz Fleet found Yang's fleet and engaged him in close proximity to a black hole, the Vonkel narrowly escaped destruction. (LOGH: 'The Two-Headed Snake: The Battle of Rantemario', 'Battle After Battle')
Following the Alliance surrender, the Vonkel was based at Uruvasi, the main Imperial military base in Alliance territory from 799 UC (1 NIC / 490 IC / 3599 CE). High Admiral Steinmetz eventually joined up with Kaiser Lohengramm's fleet to fight at the Battle of the Corridor in 800 UC (2 NIC / 491 IC / 3600 CE). Whilst battling a small detachment of the EFRRF under Commodore Marino, the Steinmetz Fleet was charged by the main EFRRF fleet under Fleet Admiral Yang and High Admiral Merkatz. At 11:50 on 6 May, the Vonkel was struck by 3 enemy beams, and exploded moments later. The only survivor out of Steinmetz's command staff was Rear Admiral Markgraf. (LOGH: 'Against All Flags', 'The Battle of the Corridor: Kaleidoscope')
