Background information
In the original DVD subtitles, Mashengo's name is spelt two different ways — Machungo (e.g., 'Victory for Whose Sake?') and Mashengo (e.g., 'The Beautiful Maiden Wants Blood'). The former is most likely the intended spelling, since it more closely matches the Japanese pronunciation and is a real African surname. (In fact, it was the name of the prime minister of Mozambique at the time the novels were being written, which may have provided some inspiration for the author.)
